Grey Langur Monkey Safari Sri Lanka

A SRI LANKAN SAFARI LIKE NO OTHER!

Join us on safari as we visit Sri Lanka's most famous national parks in search of iconic species such as Sri Lankan leopards, sloth bears, wild elephants and monkeys. You will also encounter large herds of chital, mongooses, wild boars, water buffalos, endless endemic bird species, lizards, snakes and mugger crocodiles.

Then, while other tour groups are waiting for the next day to begin, we will venture out at night to look for smaller nocturnal species that are rarely seen by visitors. Our expert local guides have many secret spots where they find endemic species such as rusty-spotted cats, jungle cats, fishing cats, civets and lorises.

This will be a safari like no other you have ever experienced!

SRI LANKA'S ENDEMIC CATS

Sri Lanka is famous for its healthy population of wild cats. The most iconic species is the Sri Lankan leopard; a unique subspecies that can be found in Yala National Park and in a few other wild areas around the island.

But Sri Lanka is not just home to leopards. There are three other feline species that we will try to encounter including rusty-spotted cats, jungle cats and fishing cats. We will also look for different species of civets; tree dwelling cat-like mammals.

SRI LANKA'S ENDEMIC PRIMATES

One of our main focuses of this special safari will be Sri Lanka's endemic primates. Join us as we search for troops of old world monkeys. As we move through different climatic zones you will encounter a variety of species from the ultra-friendly dryzone toque macaques to shaggy bear monkeys, illusive nocturnal lorises and shy purple leaf-eater monkeys. Each have their own personalities and behaviors that are different yet strangely similar to our own.

THROW IN A LITTLE SRI LANKAN HISTORY AND CULTURE

You can't come all the way to Sri Lanka and miss out on the rich history of this ancient island. We will spend time at Sigiriya Rock; a ruined hilltop fortress built by King Kassapa around AD 477. After murdering his own father to take the throne, the young king wanted a palace that was unassailable. He chose a rocky monolith rising from Sri Lanka's central plain. Don't miss the crumbling temples, intricate frescoes and soaring vistas!

EXPLORE A BIRDER'S PARADISE

If you're an avid birder you probably already know about the incredible diversity of birds in Sri Lanka. If you're not a birder, once you have seen the exotic menagerie that lives here, you just might become one after this trip. Expect to see many interesting families of birds represented here, from tiny beekeepers to painted storks, brahminy kites, changeable hawk-eagles and hornbills.

SRI LANKAN RETILES AND AMPHIBIANS

Lets not forget about the snakes, lizards, crocodiles and frogs that lurk in Sri Lanka. Although we will be concentrating on mammals, we will inevitably bump into a few interesting cold blooded endemics.
